I was like zomg. I know for some of you this might be old, but...

Still, wow. Apparently, this can lift over 400lb without much trouble.

Not enough mobility for any practical combat use. Maybe construction and possibly some sort of exploration, if an environment suit was built around the exoskeleton. Altogether, its sort of impractical. Give it some time for someone to come up with a bio mesh suit of some sort, no bulkier than a skin suit, with fibers that augment strength and then things would get interesting.

This is just a prototype, keep that in mind, right now completly useless.....in 10, 15 or at worst 20 years, it will be much more practical and usefull for a lot of application.

I want to see the day that someone invents an exoskeleton that is similar to a Spartan's suit from Halo. Don't flame me for this...

It'd be cool, the suit would have a shield and good armor(:P), increased reflexes, increased strength, increased agility/speed, a targeting system, etc.

Hell, I'd probably sign up to test it

Pretty sure HUMANS can lift over 400lbs without much trouble also, so why does this dumb thing exist?

WOW EDIT:

THE GUY SAYS: "It can walk up ramps and it can walk up stairs, which I couldn't do myself"

WHAT?! FAILLLLLL

Uhm. You know that guy might be DISABLED?

You do know how you control that thing? With your mind. You think what you want to do and exoskeleton does it for you. So if a human can lift (I doubt more than 1 out of 50 people can take 400lbs without trouble... I SERIOUSLY DOUBT) 400 lbs, this thing could in few years take few tons.

Maximum speed - stereoids ;p

Maximum armor - there are pretty advanced projects involving a special material that is like a cloth (a bit heavier), but at the impact it immediately hardens. After the energy from the impact disappears, the suit returns back to normal. Of course, it doesn't mean bullets will just crash on you and burst, but it will stop before penetrating your interior and making a spaghetti out of your liver.

Maximum strength - yep. A punch from this baby can break bones. Or at least knock down a heavy weight boxer.

Cloak - the Japanese have been testing invisibility cloaks since at least 5 years, using a flexible "monitor" and a camera. It just sends the image behind you to the layer in front of you, so it appears you are transparent. It can't cover everything, like head, and it works only on one side of the body, but it works.

The biggest problem with this exoskeleton is energy supply. Even if it can work pretty good for few hours, it takes a lot of time to recharge. And it costs a lot. And if you want to use it at full power, it has like 40 minutes of juice.

a targeting system
I think they have in plans something like that, but more like helmets from Ghost Recon, where you can see even tactical maps in a second.

If someone is disabled or paralyzed, this might be his only chance to truly walk.

Agree, but imagine a heavy armored soldier in this suit, wielding a 250lb Vulcan weapon. Or a heavy rocket launcher. I would literally pee pee my pants.

So...you see an exoskeleton in development.
And all everyone thinks about is how useful it could be in combat.
Yay.

Because it's every boy's (except for *coughlovingotherwaycough*) childhood dream to have a robot or pilot a robot. Or shoot a gun in someone's face.

Ha, this one is nothing compared to what Cyberdyne over in Japan developed. Their exoskeleton allows the user to multiply their strength by over two fold, and allows fully paralyzed victims to move again.

Uhm. This one multiplies the strength up to 10 times (if someone can pick up 50kg, with the suit it's almost 500kg) and allows paralyzed victims to move, too.

Nonetheless, do you have perhaps a video of Cyberdyne's exoskeleton?
